Las Cañas is just a twenty minute drive from Puerto Plata international airport on the North coast. It is situated in La Mulata which is one of the most exclusive suburban residential areas in the beach town of Sosua.
Sosua is a lively beach town with numerous supermarkets, boutiques, restaurants, bars and night clubs. It boasts a stunning long beach with aqua-marine water and soft white sand. The beach is lined with eating places and bars as well as souvenier shops.
Close by is the water sports resort of Cabarete, claimed to be one of the best in the Caribbean. In the day enjoy numerous gift and craft shops and at night walk along the white sandy beach, lined with restaurants and bars.
The Rio San Juan is easily accessible.
Samana can be reached by car or coach offering beautiful country-side. During the whaling season in February and March the whales visit this part of the Island to spawn.
General Information
A complimentary shuttle bus from Las Canas operates several times a day to and from Sosua. Journey time 5 - 10 minutes.
It will also transport you free of charge to and from the airport (please contact Judy Rae General Manager, to book this as soon as you have your flight times)
Taxis operate from the airport. Payment is in US Dollars. Rates are standard.
Taxis generally are available by pre-booking or can be flagged down in the street and will take you where ever you want to go.
Public transport includes motorbike taxis (motoconchos) for local runs. Public cars operate along the main road between Puerto Plata, Sosua and Cabarete. These run day and night and are the cheapest way to get about. Payment is in local currency, the Peso. You travel on these at your own risk.
At night the safest way is by hiring a registered taxi.
You can walk into Sosua centre in 20 minutes and the beach in 25-30 minutes.
